Windows 10 End of Life Is October 2025: What You Need to Do Now

October 14, 2025 is the Windows 10 end-of-support date. Businesses still running Windows 10 after that date face serious security risks. Here's your action checklist.

The clock is ticking on Windows 10. Microsoft officially ends security support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. After that date, no security patches will be released — meaning every vulnerability discovered after that date will remain permanently unpatched on Windows 10 machines.

This Is a Serious Risk

We saw exactly what happens after end-of-support with Windows XP and Windows 7. Attackers specifically develop exploits targeting end-of-life systems, knowing victims have no patch. Within months of Windows 7's end of life, documented attacks targeting that OS increased significantly. The same will happen to Windows 10.

Your Action Checklist

  1. Inventory every Windows 10 computer in your business
  2. Run Microsoft's PC Health Check app on each one to test Windows 11 compatibility
  3. Schedule Windows 11 upgrades for all compatible machines before October 14, 2025
  4. For machines that don't meet Windows 11 requirements: budget and order replacements now — don't wait until October
  5. If you need more time: budget for Microsoft's Extended Security Update (ESU) program ($61/device for one additional year)
  6. Update your IT asset inventory with the results

Don't Wait Until September

Every IT company in the country will be scrambling with Windows 10 migrations in September and October. Hardware lead times increase, IT providers are booked out, and prices go up. Start now while you have options and time to do this properly.
